The Value of Money
Here are two GAA All Ireland
tickets dated almost 30 years apart. Basically 30 shillings in 1969 was
worth £30 in 1998 which would be approximately £50 today (2001)
The pay docket below was roughly £30 for two weeks work, £15 for a week. 30 shillings was one and a half pounds. (£1.50) so the weekly wage of £15 was ten times that amount which would be approximately £500 in today's money. However, the wage docket dates back to 10 years previous to 1969 which could mean that £15 then would be worth certainly £700 today and maybe £900.... you work it out!! |
